WAITING FOR HURRICANE SANDY TO GET HERE

We’ve been waiting days for Hurricane Sandy to get here. Many schools in NY, NJ and Conn. have been closed. The subway, bus and railroad systems are all closed down, too. The major impact of the storm is not expected for quite a few more hours and right now it feels like a typical blustery autumn day. But to be on the safe side we’ve pulled in enough food for a couple of days, bottled water, flashlight and reading lights if the power should go off. The local grocery and drug stores are open in our area and say they’ll be open for another 4, maybe  5, hours, or until the storm really gets bad.

This was the scene Saturday from the Roof Garden at the Metropolitan Museum. It’s a stormy sky but not that unusual for this time of year in NYC.

This is a scene right now of our NYC street. Earlier this morning we took a nice long walk and it was not bad going, in fact, it was really quite a pleasant and refreshing time to walk, not much traffic, few walkers and even a jogger or two to keep us company. We taken everything off the terrace so now all we have to do is wait.

Later on today I may add a few more updates to the blog for my west coast and other friends as the storm progresses. I won’t have any exciting waterfront footage of waves crashing against a beach boardwalk, but you’ll get a look at what I see as Sandy moves through our area. The one concern I have is if the electricity does go out, how fast will I have to eat the ice cream in the freezer before it’s all melted.
